Why Bath is the best place to live for families

Why Bath is the best place to live for families

Cities are often seen as places that attract young professionals, with families moving to the suburbs as children arrive.

Yet today’s culture sees many families thriving in a city environment.  Although Bath is a city, it has always had a warm and welcoming feel, as much as any town, which is why you will not be surprised to learn that, for the second year running, it has been named as the UK’s best place to raise a family.

The annual Family Living Index from MoneySuperMarket looked at six key factors within 35 UK cities:
  • House prices
  • Schools
  • Access to green space
  • Crime
  • Job opportunities
  • Average salary

Due to the number of job opportunities in the area and the wealth of schools that received an Ofsted rating of ‘Outstanding’, it was declared that Bath was the number one place to live with a family.  We also find that these are some of the reasons why people outside the area decide to move here, that and the commutability to London and other major cities, which is another major attraction.

Apartment living is not synonymous with most people’s view of a family home, yet we find that when buyers see the space and variety on offer as well as what they can find to do on their doorstep, they are swayed.  We often crave space, but what do we do with it?  Fill it with things we often don’t want or need.  With heightened focus on environmental issues across the glove, we have seen a growing trend of people seeking spaces that streamline their lives and provide more opportunities for being together.

That’s not to say at all that apartments provide you with a smaller square footage than a house, as in many cases the grand Georgian buildings give you a fabulous home to call yours.  We know why Bath is the best place to live no matter what your situation, but here are three of our favourite family activities that we think you should try.

Bath Cake-tastrophe

Whether you’re new to the city or not, this is a great way to get the kids out and about on their very own spy mission treasure trail. This is self-guided two-hour trail where you will uncover stories that bring the streets to life, unlock the egg-citing clues to figure out the detonation codes before an evil villain’s baked buns explode.

Bath City Farm

Young and old alike can’t help but enjoy a day at this wonderful farm that covers 37 acres of farmland.  After you have met the animals, you can walk through their history trail, enjoy the nature trail and have a really good play in the fort, which was inspired by a medieval castle.

Bath boating

When you live somewhere it is easy to get stuck in a rut and not see things from a different perspective.  With children, you can be dashing to one thing after another, which is why we think taking to the river is a fantastic way to spend some time together.  You get to see Bath away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, and it’s something you can all do together.
